Canon 800mm f/5.6L Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM Super Telephoto Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras.

This is the longest telephoto lens among Canon’s lineup, and a terrific choice for any long-distance application-outdoor sports, wildlife, news photojournalism, and so on.

Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L actually lighter than Canon’s EF 600mm f/4L IS lens, weighing just under 10 lbs. It uses a refined optical design, with two fluorite lens elements, one UD element, and one Super-UD-glass element, for outstanding correction of color fringing and superb contrast and sharpness.

This super-telephoto lens uses magnesium-alloy barrel construction to enhance its light weight, and has weather-resistant gaskets throughout for use in harsh conditions.

It’s compatible with both the EF 1.4x II and 2x II tele extenders for even more reach: EOS cameras with 45 AF points will continue to provide autofocus at the center AF point when the lens is used with the 1.4x extender.

Finally, it’s image stabilized, providing up to 4 stops of correction for camera shake. This makes it even more practical in many situations.

User’s reviews Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L

“I had Canon super telephoto 500mm f 4.0 and was very satisfied with the quality excellent, but I found it without the use of 1.4x and 2x tele converters. Given users in the field change with time and huimidity is what it is here in South Florida I was concerned.

With the aim naked I can get the same result as I did with the 500mm, without awkward to attach converters on the fly.

Just a note: Some may disagree, but I saw no noticeable degradation in IQ when the 1.4x converter on the 500mm. With the 2x there was a slight sweetness, long distance.

I use the 800mm with a Canon 50D and Canon 5D MkII with great results.

The drop-in 52mm circular polarizing filter [Accessories] gives a nice color contrast and color saturation for use in sunny cloudless days.

Super fast autofocus with two IS settings that contribute to this large lens in windy conditions.

Another note: This lens is fast auto focus camera with the settings above, but will not autofocus and a 1.4x converter attached, although the SI will work. You must use a 1D and 1Ds series bodies have autofocus function with the converter 1.4x and the center focus point. Auto-focus is not “all bodies” in camera with 2x converter with this lens.

Took some pictures of wild animals big down here in the Everglades and the Florida Keys and the hope of using this objective in an exciting pace elsewhere”

That is my goal like the 500 / 4 IS, and are widely used both (800 for about 9 months, 500 for about 7 years). Native (without an extender), both less convincing - which is extremely sharp. The 800 is slightly better than the combination of 1.4 X 500, but both are so good that it’s hard to say. The real difference starts to show when the 800 + 1.4X compared to the 500 + 2X: hence the 800 + 1.4X combination is clearly more acute in most focal lengths. I used the 800 + 2X on occasions. This can produce a good image sharpness, but is a pain when manual focus is (live view compulsory to contribute significantly).

Got something to say?
