The Opteka mirror lens is incredibly compact and lightweight. Using an advanced reflex design, this is a mirror lens that is ideally suited for wildlife and sports photography. It has a fixed aperture of f8.

Opteka mirror lenses incorporates advanced computer designed optics and the latest in multi-coating techniques. The process of multi-coating assures virtually flare free photographs even under adverse lighting conditions resulting in crisp high contrast pictures with full color fidelity.

Customer’s reviews Opteka 800mm f/8

“I bought this lens for nature photography and it didn’t dissappoint me. This is a manual lens, so you have to set your camera in manual mode. Know your camera first! There’s a lot of adjustment to be done in order to take a good picture but, you’ll get use to it.

A tripod is a must because you only have a 3 degree window and every breath and heart beat you make is transmitted through the lens. You can use a 2X teleconverter ( or, Opteka 2x mutiplier ) if you wish. The end result is great!”

Sigma 300-800mm f/5.6 EX DG HSM APO IF Ultra Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras.

The Sigma APO 300-800mm f5.6 EX DG HSM Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras provides a constant fast maximum aperture throughout the entire zoom range and is optimized for digital SLR cameras. By continuously varying the angle of view from 8.2 degrees to 3.1 degrees, the lens takes a lot of the footwork out of picture composition.

The multi-layer lens coating and lens design reduce flare and ghosting, which is a common problem with digital cameras, and it also creates an optimum color balance. Two Extra Low Dispersion (ELD) glass elements in the front lens elements reduce chromatic aberration to a minimum and also ensure sharp, quality images of high contrast.

The lens’ Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) provide silent, high-speed and precise auto-focusing with full time manual focus override. The lens also features a drop-in 46 millimeter filter holder in the rear part of the lens barrel, which can be rotated to facilitate the use of filters, including a polarizing filter. Since focusing and zooming do not change its overall length, this lens is easy to hold and use. In addition, since the front of the lens does not rotate, a circular polarizing filter can be easily attached and used.

Sigma 300-800mm f/5.6 accepts both 1.4x and 2x APO EX Tele-Converters (sold separately).

User’s reviews Sigma 300-800mm f/5.6

“This is a great lens and is a must-have for birders and other nature photography. The zoom range is extremely flexible and the f-stop fairly quickly, but keep in mind that this is a very, very specialized lens. Firstly, yes, it’s huge! This is not something that you carry daily. It can be very difficult to get sharp images at focal lengths over 400 mm or more. You must must MUST use a solid end, and high tripod head gimbal. This will also prevent the “fall” described in another review.

The only purpose is very heavy, and once you throw in a sturdy tripod you talking 25 + pounds of equipment to a minimum what is really going to limit your mobility and affect the way you shoot. It costs a lot of foresight to use, but I prefer to think this as an advantage.

When used properly, this lens has fantastic image quality — very sharp, excellent contrast. When I say sharp, I am talking L-series sharp, even wide open. The HSM focus speed is fast, perhaps slightly slower than Canon’s USM but not appreciably so. The only thing it’s really missing is image stabilization (or optical stabilization, as Sigma calls it), which would really help out on those long shots. This is a minor limitation, though, to a great lens. If you have the discipline to learn how to use this lens properly (and if you can afford it!), you’ll reap some great rewards.

“The optical properties of the lens worth the burden with you. It is clear the entire range, has excellent contrast and good neutral color. With a constant f/5.6 aperture throughout the focal range and excellent performance wide open there is little to notice. Distortion is almost immeasurable with figures less than half a percent on both ends of the zoom. Chromatic aberrations are not non-existent until the refraction begins to apply to smaller openings and even then they are well under control”

Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM Super Telephoto Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras.

This is the longest telephoto lens among Canon’s lineup, and a terrific choice for any long-distance application-outdoor sports, wildlife, news photojournalism, and so on.

Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L actually lighter than Canon’s EF 600mm f/4L IS lens, weighing just under 10 lbs. It uses a refined optical design, with two fluorite lens elements, one UD element, and one Super-UD-glass element, for outstanding correction of color fringing and superb contrast and sharpness.

This super-telephoto lens uses magnesium-alloy barrel construction to enhance its light weight, and has weather-resistant gaskets throughout for use in harsh conditions.

It’s compatible with both the EF 1.4x II and 2x II tele extenders for even more reach: EOS cameras with 45 AF points will continue to provide autofocus at the center AF point when the lens is used with the 1.4x extender.

Finally, it’s image stabilized, providing up to 4 stops of correction for camera shake. This makes it even more practical in many situations.

User’s reviews Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L

“I had Canon super telephoto 500mm f 4.0 and was very satisfied with the quality excellent, but I found it without the use of 1.4x and 2x tele converters. Given users in the field change with time and huimidity is what it is here in South Florida I was concerned.

With the aim naked I can get the same result as I did with the 500mm, without awkward to attach converters on the fly.

Just a note: Some may disagree, but I saw no noticeable degradation in IQ when the 1.4x converter on the 500mm. With the 2x there was a slight sweetness, long distance.

I use the 800mm with a Canon 50D and Canon 5D MkII with great results.

The drop-in 52mm circular polarizing filter [Accessories] gives a nice color contrast and color saturation for use in sunny cloudless days.

Super fast autofocus with two IS settings that contribute to this large lens in windy conditions.

Another note: This lens is fast auto focus camera with the settings above, but will not autofocus and a 1.4x converter attached, although the SI will work. You must use a 1D and 1Ds series bodies have autofocus function with the converter 1.4x and the center focus point. Auto-focus is not “all bodies” in camera with 2x converter with this lens.

Took some pictures of wild animals big down here in the Everglades and the Florida Keys and the hope of using this objective in an exciting pace elsewhere”
